The network is an informal vehicle for promoting the work of Gothic and Horror scholars (whether they be affiliated or independent) and creative practitioners from throughout the island of Ireland. All are welcome, regardless of career stage, status, location, or relationship to academia. We are particularly interested in creating networking opportunities for Irish-based postgraduate and early career researchers.

In addition to showcasing the rich and varied work being done within Horror and the Gothic by researchers and creative talents based in Ireland, we also hope to create additional opportunities for networking and collaboration, through hosting at least one event each year, and promoting other relevant ventures that are going on across the island of Ireland.

We have an event coming up, in conversation with Irish podcasters:

Join the Irish Network for Gothic and Horror Studies as we highlight the work of Irish podcasts that focus on horror, the gothic, and the weird. Over two events, which will take place online 25th February 2026 and 25th March 2026, we will engage podcast creators in discussion regarding their experience with the genres, their podcasting process, and their work outside of podcasting.

There will be a “masterclass” element to these discussions as well, so anyone wanting to know more about the podcasting process are welcome to join. There will be time for questions from the audience.

The events will take place over zoom from 7-8:30pm Irish time. They are free and open to all, but registration is necessary.

Click on the link here to register for the 25th February event, in conversation with Petrified (Peter Dunne and Liam Geraghty) and Scream Queens (Conor Molloy).

Peter Dunne is an award-winning writer, playwright, and creator of audio dramas, podcasts andunusual experiences. Irish Theatre Magazine described his work as “New Irish writing at its best”. Visit Dublin called him “One of Ireland’s most interesting and innovative talents” while Headstuff called his theatre work “brilliant and innovative.” Peter is the writer/director of Petrified.

Liam Geraghty is an award-winning audio producer. Liam was a reporter for RTE Radio 1 for over a decade. The Irish Times described him as “an old hand at finely crafted audio artefacts with a natural knack for storytelling”. Liam produces & hosts the culture podcast Meet Your Maker and he produces, edits and sound designs Petrified.

Scream Queens:Two Irish weirdos masquerading as smoking hot bombshells come together to drink wine and discuss the things that go bump in the night, in this digital low-key Satanic ritual. We’re talking cults, serial killers, demons (not ours! well, maybe), our cats (Ouija & Kubrick, who might just be demons), and all things spooky. Because 2020 wasn’t scary enough.

Conor Molloy from Scream Queens

Conor Molloy is one of the Scream Queens duo: an ENFJ, Taurus, and self-described “semi-evil attentionseeker”. He’s Jessica Wakefield with a vape, botox on Klarna, and access to an unlimited zolpidem prescription – used responsibility of course, like alcohol. His desire to be in the spotlight has led him many places including the stage, the screen (a face made for murder re-enactment boyfriend #3), a film or two that he hopes never see the light of day (for your sake), and most recently an arguably ill-advised foray into stand-up comedy. Starting Scream Queens with his friend Dani was a natural culmination of his dreams of fame & fortune, and his love of the occult he has had since he first saw Shannen Doherty squint her eyes. Surely a podcast was the missing piece of the puzzle…. right…?

We also have a monthly film discussion club, moderated by Máiréad Casey.

Join us as we discuss a different genre classic. Links to the films will be made available, and participants can view the films in their own time, bringing their responses to a lively online discussion. Everyone is welcome, but registration (at the link below) is necessary. Registration will also provide you with access to the film link and the zoom link.

To find links to the zoom and the films, look for the “View the Event” button in the eventbrite email after registration.
